Apple recently announced they would make full length movies available for download via their iTunes store, correction iTunes U.S. store, but not Canada…yet. I do not see the benefit of purchasing a movie for download for $10 – $15 US for the mere fact that once downloaded, I cannot take that movie and burn it to a DVD. So, unless I plan to watch all of my movies on a 15 inch laptop monitor, or connect my laptop to my TV via a s-video cable each time, this whole process seems to complicated. The costs of purchasing the DVD are almost the same as well, and that DVD can be played anywhere, home DVD player, friend’s DVD player, and yes if you really wanted to, even your laptop.
The point I’m trying to make is that if I purchase a movie online, I should be able to view it anywhere. I suppose Apple’s upcoming product, iTV, may attempt to resolve this issue by streaming video from a computer to a television wirelessly.
