Microsoft Office on mobiles is now free. The previous version of Office Mobile allowed you to view Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files but to create a new document, an Office 365 subscription was required. Now the one Office Mobile app has been replaced with three individual apps, and they all allow you to create documents without a subscription. There will still be some advanced features which will require the paid subscription, but just having the ability to create on mobile is a big step for Microsoft. With competition from Google and Apple on their own document editing software, Microsoft needed to step up and make sure it keeps Office top of mind for all users.
