Spinning the various aspects of technology

It’s been just over a week with my iPhone 6 and have only just begun to explore the Health app on the device. Now it should be noted the app just added functionality to work with third party apps with the updated iOS 8.0.2. This means that the Strava app can add data into the Health app for my bike rides and then I am able to view an overview of my health activities in one app.

What I was unaware was that my iPhone 6 had been tracking my steps and distance since I turned on the phone last week. I simply clicked on the Show on Dashboard option and it was that simple.

This simplicity is exactly what I look for in apps. I didn’t have to download any additional app, didn’t have to press a start button, I simply turned on my phone and started walking. As I’m currently doing lots of training walks for the upcoming Weekend to End Women’s Cancers, this functionality has come at a perfect time for me.

I was actually considering purchasing a fitness tracker such as the Jawbone UP24 but now that I’ve discovered this feature and function, I’m not sure if I need a fitness tracker any longer. My phone is always with me, just as the fitness tracker would be. I do know the fitness tracker can monitor sleep while keeping it on, and while that’s a nice feature to have, it wouldn’t really help me become more active. I already know that I need to sleep by a certain time to wake up early enough to exercise, and I figured that math out in my head, no app needed for that.
