Spinning the various aspects of technology

If you have a BlackBerry Pearl, and it’s with Rogers, then you are in luck. There is an update available to bring the OS to version 4.2.0.67, from the previous version of 4.2.0.51. This update should fix any bugs you may have encountered with the previous OS, such as memory leak and call quality issues.

I’ve installed the update and noticed a bit more free memory on my Pearl, as well as a faster response to navigating the device. To install the update, keep reading:

  • IMPORTANT: Perform a backup of your device using BlackBerry Desktop Manager
  • CAUTION: Seriously, skipping the backup step can cause serious issues if a problem arises
  • Ok, you may now continue
  • Download the latest version here
    • Be sure to select Package Version 4.2.0.79, which contains the .67 OS
  • Run the downloaded file
  • Connect your device to your computer via the USB cable
  • Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager
  • If all goes smoothly, you should be prompted to upgrade your device

An OS upgrade can take quite some time, so be prepared for this. Also, your device’s radio will automatically be turned off during the process, so don’t expect to receive, or make, any calls during the update.
