Spinning the various aspects of technology

Do you, or someone you know, have an old Rogers TDMA / Analog phone? If so, this might be of interest, or sad news, to you. Rogers will be shutting down their TDMA network on May 31, 2007. They are offering a free GSM phone for both postpaid and prepaid customers. It might not be the BlackBerry Pearl so don’t get too excited, but if you’re using a TDMA phone, any new GSM phone will be an upgrade for you.

Why the shutdown you ask? Apparently it costs Rogers more money to keep the TDMA network running than to shut it down. GSM is the technology most widely used around the world, and Rogers would like to focus all of their resources towards this technology.
